Naming a new baby is a minefield. Your child has to live with this name forever, after all. There are a thousand things to think about when making the choice… or at least there should be. As always, the BabyCenter.com most popular baby names and naming trends lists reveal that many parents don’t give as much thought to naming their children as they should.
Some trending name ideas, like naming your little boy either Anderson or Cooper after CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, are likely to meet with approval from the babies who will have to live with these names when they grow up. As will the trend of naming babies after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. There will certainly be at least four Wills and Kates in every classroom, but a Will can grow up to be a lawyer as easily as rockstar and a Kate could be President of the United States as easily as she could be a super model. Harry and Pippa, the royal couple’s siblings, have also shot up the charts providing royal wedding fans with more interesting, but still very livable, choices for their offspring.
But really folks, how does naming children after characters from JERSEY SHORE and JERSEYLICIOUS and all other reality television shows based in New Jersey end up sounding like a good idea? From Breilla to Jacqueline to Kimberly, any name related to one of these Jersey based shows has jumped up the charts this year. Even the name Jersey itself has started trending! They’re all beautiful names, but saddling your children with the juju of being named after someone who fake bakes and throws drunken temper tantrums on television for a living seems like asking for trouble!
Speaking of naming children after reality television stars… Baby Mason from Keeping Up With the Kardashians has moved his moniker up to third place on the boys’ list. Nature names (think Spring, Summer, Rain etc.) are also a big trend, as are superhero names. Thankfully, that’s referring to names like Peter and Parker, not names like Spiderman.
