MythBusters Mishap: Cannonball Hits House
The guys of MythBusters are known for their unorthodox approach to scientific testing, but their most recent foray into the world of myths and their subsequent busting has returned some unhappy results for one California family.
It made sense in theory: items would be fired at a string of water-filled garbage cans to measure the impacts of various projectiles. But when it came time to shoot the cannonball they must have made a critical error, for the steel ball flew right over the target and through a cinderblock wall. Then over the hill behind it. Then through the front door of a house before it flew across the mater bedroom and crashed through the back wall of the house.
Luckily, nobody was injured by the rogue cannonball, and the hosts of the show along with the Discovery Channel are eager to fix the damage that was caused. Turns out that damage was limited to the unlucky house and the window and dashboard of a minivan.
Will this little accident change the way the show does things? Likely not, as the show’s publicist Katherine Nelson insists that all proper safety protocol had been observed. So, it seems that this is just another life lesson: you can try to stay out of its path, but you never know where the canonball will fly.
