Meteor Shower December 13 2011 Video: Amazing!

The Geminid Meteor shower of 2011 is underway and an amazing video of the dramatic event from last year has seen a surge of interest online. The video, shown below, was taken by filmmaker Henry Jun Wah Lee and the breathtaking footage was captured during the Geminid meteor shower at Joshua Tree last year.

Meteor Shower December 13 2011

The Geminid meteor shower is believed to be intensifying each year with as many as 120-160 meteors per hour in recent years. The event usually peaks around December 13 or 14 and often features slow moving shooting stars that – in the right light – can be seen easily with the naked eye. If the video below is any indication of what viewers can expect, this year should be absolutely amazing.

The Geminid shower is considered the final major meteor shower of the year and is expected to be most visible Tuesday and Wednesday.

For those of you still looking, you should still be able to see some shooting stars in the coming hours and days. The event is supposed to continue through to the 16th of December.
