Howard Stern Joins America’s Got Talent

Howard Stern is joining America’s Got Talent! Entertainment Weekly reports that the shock jock confirmed on his radio show this morning that he’ll be replacing Piers Morgan on the NBC competition show, allowing Piers to focus on his CNN news talk show.

America’s Got Talent will even move its production to New York City, where Howard will continue SiriusXM radio program. Whoa! Apparently Howard has some power!

“Howard Stern’s larger-than-life personality will bring a thrilling new dynamic to America’s Got Talent starting this summer,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC’s head of alternative programming. “He’s a proven innovator and his track record in broadcasting is truly remarkable. Howard is very passionate about this show and is fully committed to its future success.”

Do you think Howard will make a good judge? Is he too abrasive? He said on his show about the news, “I take judging very seriously … in order to up my credibility, I will wear a suit.” MTV reports that Howard also said, “I’m going to be Piers [Morgan] on steroids. It’s going to be a no-nonsense judge … I’m going to go there as a serious judge … It’s gonna be something else … I am very excited.” He added: “This nonsense of Howie and Sharon putting through less-than-talented people has got to stop. Under my administration there will be no Frank Sinatra impersonators winning for the year. If people think I’m the crazy man, I am not. I am the voice of reason,” he said, referring to second-rate acts that made the cut. “Goofy acts are not going through.”

Apparently, he was once even considered for American Idol…but perhaps the slightly more electic America’s Got Talent is a better fit. With The Voice and The X-Factor joining the fray within the past year, I think we’re getting an overdose of competitions shows.
