“VH1 Divas” to Air Tonight with Tribute to Amy Winehouse

The annual “VH1 Divas” special will feature some of the old guard of pop princesses alongside some newcomers, and it promises to be a spectacular show. Since its inception in 1998, this program has a reputation for bringing together the biggest female performers of the day, and this year is no exception.

However, there will be one unique feature this year: a tribute to modern soul legend Amy Winehouse orchestrated by Florence Welch, Wanda Jackson, and Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings. In fact, the theme of the show is soul music, in contrast to last year’s culturally relevant “salute to the troops” theme.

But you can also look forward to the divas — including Florence Welch, Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige and Jennifer Hudson — paying homage to the birthplaces of soul music with their own soulful tunes and some soul staples to lend a classic note to the evening.

Since the show was reborn in 2009, it hasn’t let its audience down, as a particularly powerful  crop of divas like Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj have added incredible energy to the night. For fans of female pop, you won’t want to miss this!

The show airs at 9pm ET/PT tonight on VH1.
