UPDATE: I’m very happy to report that Chris’ second (solo) song of the night was “Young Homie” — and he killed it.
As part of the X Factor finale duet extravaganza, Chris Rene sang “Complicated” with singer Avril Lavigne, but he started off with a cringe-worthy, uncomfortably awkward intro. Nicole Scherzinger even commented semi-apologetically: “It was a little shaky in the take-off.”
Fortunately, Avril came in to sing her own song and somewhat salvaged the performance. Chris Rene began his signature rapping, and the performance moderately improved as it went on. However, the beginning part of his singing may damage his chances significantly if America votes purely based on talent — especially since he is already the show’s “dark horse.”
I like Chris Rene. As LA Reid mentioned, he’s at his eight-month sobreity mark and I think he’s a huge inspiration for pursuing his singing dreams after what he’s been through. I even think he has the potential to make his own album after the X Factor – but with his own kind of music. This show limits him because he has to sing songs that are outside of his comfort zone and way out of his style range!

You clowns are the ones that need to get off the pipe.. I think Chris rocks… He’s not going to hit the notes of Melanie Amaro but that’s what makes him unique. He’s a emenem type singer. Not a pop artist..Listen to the music..Wake up and smell the coffee as Chris has..And stay off the rock pipe.
I agree with Greger. Also, Chris has an infectious joy that is rare but hopefully contagious.

I’ve liked Chris Rene since day 1; Young Homie is a masterpiece of HH Rap, however, let’s be honest – the dude can not carry a tune. Period.

Note to Greger, who so rudely seems to need to attack anyone with opinions other than his, I own EVERY Eminem album and i can state unequivocally that Mr Mathers most certainly can carry a tune; to compare Chris Rene to Eminem is simply ludicrous.
Chris Rene is a personality, for sure, and an awesome HH Rapper… but a singer, he is not.
That being said, it does not mean that he doesn’t have the X-Factor.
Spot on Domina! No doubt that Chris Rene is a personality, but even the judges have acknowledged that he “doesn’t have the best voice in the competition”. He simply is not a singer. Josh and Melanie can really sing. And they both have the x-factor–one of them should win
Chris or Josh all the way! We have too many Melanie-type singers out there already, and they are all like carbon copies of each other.
I with you, Dennis. Melanie is amazing and will make it without the win. I think, probably, Josh will, too. I’d like to see Chris make it. He’s the one the win would help the most. He woudl be amazing to see in concert especially if his peeps put him through.
Chris Rene is always off key. I don’t know how he has gotten to the Top 3. Oh wait yes I do…he’s a former tweaker who America feels sorry for.
Susan – you hit the nail on the head. Chris is usually off key. He’s a likable guy and has his good points, but he doesn’t measure up to Josh or Melanie by any yardstick. I’m shocked every week when he makes it through. If America votes on talent (as they should) it has to be Melanie or Josh. Chris will still have a nice career, but he isn’t the most deserving in this contest.
Nobody’s duet was great last night but atleast Chris Rene’s was high energy!!

Chris Rene is the only one that has his own music ready to be produced/published while the other two will be manufactured to get a record out on time so that people don’t forget about them!

Great! Than let Chris be a song writer, cuz he can’t sing! I do agree that there are to many Melanie’s although she is a great singer. Josh however has a very unique voice and we do need more of those singers!
