Russell Brand and Katy Perry Getting a Divorce
For once, the rumors are true.
Russell Brand is filing for divorce from Katy Perry because of “irreconcilable differences.” The 36 year-old British actor told the Associated Press: “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”
Russell and Katy, 27, got married in India in October 2010. The split is not a huge surprise, given that the couple spent Christmas apart. Katy was seen swimming in Hawaii without her wedding ring while Russell was spotted walking the streets of London without his, making a breakup seem imminent. Us Weekly reports that Katy and Russell argued about how to spend the holidays. Both were quiet on their Twitter pages, which have been used in the past to dispel breakup rumors.
However, the couple seemed blissful earlier this month, when People reports that Katy told Ellen Degeneres, “I am really happily married.”
So – why did Katy Perry and Russell Brand break up? Here are a few theories:
Kids. Katy also told Ellen in November that she would love to have children. “I think that’s one of the reasons you get married, especially to the person that you marry. You think, ‘That person is going to be a good partner, a good parent.’” Maybe Russell didn’t want them?
Time apart. Though Katy and Russell never went more than 2 weeks without seeing each other, the constant touring and traveling must have taken a toll on their relationship.
Religion. A source told Us Weekly: “Katy doesn’t think Russell respects her parents’ Christian beliefs or her friends.” While Russell is interested in the Hare Krishna Movement and Transcendental Meditation, Katy was raised by Christian pastors and sang Gospel music before getting into pop.
