Avatar 2 Release Date? Jon Landau Has an Update

The blue people will be back – but not for a while. BleedingCool reports that Avatar 2 is in the works, but producer Jon Landau says that Avatar 2 is “four years away.”

That means the next film will be released in 2016, which is a change from the original announcement that Avatar sequels would come out in 2013 and 2014 (though later interviews suggested 2014 and 2015). The site suggests that Christmas 2015 could be a possible spot for Avatar 2 on the cinema schedule.

However, good things come to those who wait; Landau also said that Avatar 2 would include advanced 3D camera technology, CG effects, performance capture and a higher framerate.

Back in 2010, Avatar 2 director James Cameron told the Los Angeles Times that his goal with the Avatar sequel was to make a movie in “half the price and in half the time.” He added, “Again, that’s an impossible goal, we won’t accomplish that, but if we can reduce by 25% in both categories, we’ll have really accomplished something.”

Are you excited for the Avatar sequels?
