Why wasn’t Ryan Gosling at the Golden Globes last night? We thought maybe he was breaking up another fight or perhaps rescuing some kittens…but Us Weekly reports that Ryan’s Ides of March co-star George Clooney gave the scoop backstage:
“He’s in Thailand or something,” Clooney explained. “He wrote me a nice letter, an e-mail, this morning. You know, he’s gotta work. He’s gotta earn a living. He’s a struggling actor.”
Indeed, Ryan is in Asia filming Only God Forgives, a movie to be directed by Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn. It also stars Kristin Scott Thomas, Vithaya Pansringarm, and Yaya Ying. “[I’m doing] Muay Thai [training],” Ryan said of his prep for the film. “It’s been painful. I like it a lot.”
Ryan lost the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama to Clooney, who won for The Descendants. Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Michael Fassbender were also nominated.

Why is there more focus on the actors and host than on the movies themselves? The Golden Globes are a bit out of touch with what really entertains audiences and makes a successful film. 2011 was a great year for movies but all the wrong ones get the attention… movies like Margin Call, Ironclad and even Girl with the Dragon Tattoo are snubbed by the awards.
