Steven Tyler National Anthem – Just How Bad Was It? (WATCH)

The sports world has seen some absolutely horrendous national anthems over the years. Botched lyrics, missed notes and seemingly endless vocal dipsy-doodling.

When Aerosmith lead singer and current American Idol judge Steven Tyler stepped up to sing “The Star Spangled Banner” before the NFL’s AFC Championship game yesterday, it looked like the anthem was in good hands. After all, Tyler has performed thousands of times in front of millions of fans.

However, Tyler made a bit of a mess of things. Most notably, he screwed up the lyrics, singing  ”as bomb bursting in air” instead of “the bombs bursting in air” and also “oh the land of the free” instead of “o’er the land of the free.”

He was also off key at times and added some improvisational vocal flourishes that didn’t sound too appealing. See for yourself:

Yikes.

Luckily for the two teams on the field and the fans at home, Tyler’s abysmal anthem was soon forgotten and a very good football game ensued.
