A clip featuring actor Matthew Broderick reprising his iconic role as Ferris Bueller appeared online yesterday and it generated quite a buzz. Take a look:
At first, the rumors were that a sequel to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the legendary 1986 comedy, was finally going to be made. Then, a few more details emerged that poured cold water onto that idea. The clip was said to be merely a teaser for an upcoming Super Bowl commercial (yes, we have apparently reached the point where 30-second Super Bowl commercials have teaser trailers posted in advance).
Now, even more information about the clip has emerged. It’s a commercial for Honda. According to the car site Jalopnik, the ad will mimic some of the key scenes from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, except with Honda vehicles. Instead of a red Ferrari, there will reportedly be a Honda CR-V. Kinda lame.
The ad is said to be directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover) and to have cost Honda a lot of money. Considering the buzz it has generated before even airing (heck, I’m writing about it), it looks like it’s already paying off for the Japanese auto maker.
