Karl Lagerfeld Calls Adele Fat

Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director of Chanel, likes Adele but says she is too fat! “I prefer Adele and Florence Welch,” he told newspaper Metro US. “But as a modern singer [Lana Del Rey] is not bad. The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice. Lana Del Rey is not bad at all. She looks very much like a modern-time singer. In her photos she is beautiful. Is she a construct with all her implants? She’s not alone with implants.”

Sure, Adele is a fuller-figured lady, but what does that have to do with her voice? Can you not enjoy her music because she’s not model-thin? So ridiculous. I get that physical appearance is important when you’re in the public eye (Jennifer Lopez once said that staying thin is part of her “job”) – but it’s not like Adele is a hip hop dancer. Can we please just let singers sing?

Luckily, Adele doesn’t care what people think about her weight. “The focus on my appearance has really surprised me,” she told The Mirror in 2008. “I’ve always been a size 14 to 16, I don’t care about clothes, I’d rather spend my money on cigarettes and booze. I like having my hair and face done, but I’m not going to lose weight because someone tells me to. I make music to be a musician not to be on the cover of Playboy.”

You go, girl.
