American Idol Hollywood Week: Poor Travis Orlando Gets Cut for the Second Year

Travis Orlando auditioned last year but didn’t make it past Hollywood Week.

Orlando, who quit high school to pursue a music career after his mother left his family, tried out again this year hoping that he can get further this time around. He did not make it again this year.

“I have to go back to nothing,” he said between tears.

Travis Orlando lived in the Bronx in a homeless shelter with his family. Though they are now out of the shelther, they still struggle and live day to day.

In New Jersey, he sang The Beatles’ Eleanor Rigby. When Steven Tyler asked to hear something else, Travis performed Jason Mraz’s I’m Yours.

Hollywood Week is a hugely different experience for contestants, as they sing on a huge stage in front of all the other competitors – without instruments, microphones or even the same friendliness from the judges they see during hometown auditions.

Do you think Travis deserved another chance, or was he just not ready?
