Whitney Houston Dead at 48
Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48. TMZ reports that the singer was found dead this morning at the Beverly Hilton hotel. A publicist confirmed the news to the Associated Press (though that report states that the location of death is unknown).
The tragic news comes a night before the 2012 Grammy Awards; Whitney herself won six Grammys in addition to 30 Billboard Music Awards and 22 American Music Awards. Her album “Whitney” was the first female album to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Charts. Whitney has sold 200 million albums worldwide. She also starred in films “The Bodyguard” and “Waiting to Exhale.”
Whitney leaves behind a 19 year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, from her 17-year marriage to Bobby Brown (they divorced in 2007). Whitney was most recently linked to boyfriend Ray-J, whom she was seen with last weekend.
The last decade of Whitney’s life was marred by drug use and public meltdowns. She declared on Oprah in 2010 that she was drug-free, but had trouble performing up to her previous standards at concerts.
Whitney Houston was an amazing performer who will be missed. Here’s an old favorite of mine, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”:
