After the death of pop legend Whitney Houston last night, many wondered what the atmosphere would be like at the 2012 Grammys.
The show went on.
Singers mentioned Ms. Whitney Houston during their presentations on stage, including Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Alicia Keyes and Bonnie Raitt during their lively performances.
To no surprise, Kanye West is leading in wins with seven nominations, winning for Best Rap Performance (with Jay-Z for “Otis”); Best Rap/Sung Collabration (“All Of The Lights”), Best Rap Song (“All Of The Lights”), Best Rap Album (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”).
Best Pop Solo Performance went to Adele for “Someone Like You.” She also won for Best Pop Vocal Album (for “21”) and Best Short Form Music Video (“Rolling In The Deep”). Adele will sing live later on in the night, a performance that is widely anticipated after her five-month hiatus due to vocal cord surgery.
Two additional awards yet to be handed out are as follows (with the nominees):
Album Of The Year:
21— Adele
Wasting Light— Foo Fighters
Born This Way— Lady Gaga
Doo-Wops & Hooligans — Bruno Mars
Loud — Rihanna
Record Of The Year:
“Rolling In The Deep” — Adele
