American Idol Announces New Show Change During 400th Episode

The top 13 perform today and, for the first time in American Idol, the guys will compete against the girls during this particular show. The bottom girl and bottom guy will be revealed tomorrow and the judges will choose who stays.

I guess American Idol is trying to change things up a bit?

For today’s performances, the men will pay tribute to Stevie Wonder and the women to Whitney Houston. All contestants were coached by Jimmy Iovine and Mary J. Blige.

As a reminder, the top 13 are Phillip, Hollie, Jessica, Shannon, Heejun, Colton, Elise, Skylar, Joshua, Jermaine, Erika, Jeremy and DeAndre.

Joshua is up first and delivers a very spirited performance. Randy says he’s flavorful and flawless and JLo agrees and comments on his “church arm.”

Elise chooses to sing Whitney’s “Greatest Love of All” and Jimmy immediately doesn’t like her sneak preview. They make her change it to “I’m Your Baby Tonight” and she has trouble adjusting and taking Jimmy’s and Mary’s feedback. The judges are all lukewarm about her performance.

What do you think about the judges choosing who goes home during this stage?
