Dancing With The Stars Season Premiere 2012: Jaleel White, Steve Urkel Gets Highest Scores of the Night!

55-year-old tennis champion Martina Navratilova is a breast cancer survivor. She says she can overcome anything after that experience, but she struggles a bit with the femininity required be her dance routine and comments that her biceps are useless. She hasn’t worn a dress in 20 years and emerges wearing a scintillating gray and black gown and looks womanly and strong. As for scoring, the usual “Len scores on less point than the other two judges” formula is back – a 6 from Len.

UK opera star Katherine Jenkins is relatively unknown on this side of the pond but she’s partnered with Mark Ballas; hopefully that will help her gain some new fans.  She sang a song during classical week a few seasons ago. They dance the fox trot. Katherine is in tears by the end of her dance. Bruno says the performance was exquisite and Carrie Anne says they looked like two pros. Carrie Ann and Bruno give them 9s and Len gives them an 8. Wow! Highest score of the night so far.

Music legend Gladys Knight is dancing the cha cha with Tristan McManus. She says she’s wanted to dance with the Pips but they never let her. (That is so adorable!) She comes out wearing a cherry red dress and dances heartily to “Best of My Love.” They get an especially extended standing ovation. Bruno, as expected, is shouting in glee, Carrie Anne gets up and dances, and Len says there’s a naturalness to her dance. Yes, Len isn’t messing with the Grammy queen!  The judges scores: Carrie Ann and Bruno give 8s and Len gives a 7.

They save Jaleel White, better known as Steve Urkel, for last. He’s partnered with Kym Johnson, who proclaims she will take the winning crown back this season. Jaleel says everyone is expecting him to fall and say, “Did I do that?” I hope he does. They dance a charming fox trot to “Way You Look Tonight.” Carrie Ann says everything was super smooth, Len says the dance had elegance and sophistication, and Bruno says he thought he was watching Gregory Hines.

So what did Urkel score? Carrie Ann gives them a 9; Len gives them an 8; and, no surprise here, Bruno gives them a 9.
