Jason Derulo materializes on stage wearing a shimmery neck brace. He explains the meaning behind his new song, “Defeated.” He’s partnered with Coca Cola to allow the public to help him finish writing the song so he can perform it during the Idol finale show.
Hollie Cavangh’s idol is Carrie Underwood, so decides to sing “Jesus Takes the Wheel.” Stevie Nicks is so moved by Hollie’s singing that she begins crying. Randy says it was great despite some pitch issues but he seems pretty lukewarm. JLo disagrees with Randy and says, “It doesn’t matter about that stuff what matters is your heart.” Steven says he’s not going to mess with Jesus and/or Carrie and he wishes she sang a different song.
DeAndre Brackensick’s idol is, unsurprisingly, Eric Benet. Stevie Nicks advises him to sing slowly. He sings the entire song in falsetto, prompting a standing ovation from the judges.
