American Idol Top 9: What Major Compliment Did Stevie Nicks Pay Phillip Phillips?

Jessica Sanchez is obsessed with Beyonce. Another unsurprising idol choice. She says she’s stopped attempting to emulate Beyonce’s moves. She sings “Sweet Dreams” at a glacial pace, per Stevie Nicks’ recommendation.  I don’t find the performance to be particularly entrancing, but she’s still a solid singer.

The judges shower her with the usual compliments, and she appears overly modest and thankful as usual.  She’s been a fan favorite for a while now, but I wonder where she stands now that some of the other contestants seem to be stepping it up lately?

DeAndre, Heejun and Joshua perform a Michael Jackson tribute medley. The performance is unbearably boring.

Phillip Phillips sings Jonny Lang’s “Still Rainin’.” Stevie Nicks tells Phillip that he’s going to famous and then tells the camera that he’s gorgeous. She also says that Phillip would’ve been invited to join Fleetwood Mac.  That’s a major compliment.

Phillip gets a standing ovation from the judges. Steven Tyler thinks there’s someone “in there that’s trying to climb out.” I have no idea what that means but I find it an accurate statement.

What do you think of Phillip Phillips? Do you think he deserves all the hype and compliments?

Joshua Ledet practices Mariah Carey’s version of “Without You.” Jimmy Iovine says it’s one of the top five most difficult songs to sing ever, but if anyone can pull it off on this show it’s Joshua.  He pulls some of the same runs he did for his legendary “When A Man Loves A Woman” but it wasn’t as good. Regardless, he too receives a standing O.

Randy mentions that he was talking to Mariah yesterday so he can insert some self-promotion into his comments as usual. He says that Mariah would be proud.
