Mirror Mirror Premieres – Snow White Film Revamped! (VIDEO)

You know the old story: girl meets boy, girl eats apple, girl falls into a coma, girl needs rescue… Hmmm, maybe not your everyday narrative. This seems to be the case for the remake of the classic fairytale.

The characters are similar to those we’ve loved in the past: a pure and pleasant princess with skin white as snow, lips red as blood; a crew of vertically challenged friends; an evil queen; and the chivalric and heroic, prince. But don’t get too comfy in the familiar plot line. Mirror Mirror takes the Brothers Grimm version and adds a modern-day twist. Lilly Collins, 23, who plays the pale-faced beauty sending her evil step-mother, Julia Roberts, into a vain hissy fit, describes the revamped character of Snow White.

“The way that we modernized Snow White was making her this modern day girl that can save the prince just as easily as the prince can save her,” Collins reports. “She becomes a fighter physically and emotionally and goes from this young wide-eyed innocent princess that everyone grew up knowing, to a young woman who finds within herself the strength to fight for what she believes in.”

Initially, Roberts wasn’t too hyped about taking on the role of the evil stepmother, but Indian filmmaker Tarsem Singh enticed the pretty woman into signing on. “And I looked at the script and realized that there was really something here,” reveals Roberts. Mirror Mirror adds a comic and bizarre twist to the classic Snow White tale, producing a more Alice in Wonderland flavor.

Collins, the daughter of British musician Phil Collins, stars alongside Sean Bean who takes on the role of the King, with Armie Hammer playing the prince.

Mirror Mirror premieres today in theaters.
