DWTS 2012: Gavin DeGraw and Katherine Jenkins in Tears, Which One Got the First 10 Score?
Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff were in the bottom two last week so he is especially determined to do well. Gavin chooses Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind” because he associates the song with the moment he decided to pursue a music career. He tells Karina of his supportive family and how his dad went door to door in NYC to try to find him his first gig. They dance a slow, sensual samba. Bruno states that Gavin his hips and he knows how to use them, and he needs to work on his turning. Carrie Ann says her heart is fluttering for him and claims she has “Gavin fever.” Gavin is unable to speak afterward because he’s so emotional. Awwww!!! They get 8s from all three judges.
Next up are Katherine Jenkins and professional Mark Ballas. She’s been doing very well – top of the board for the first two weeks! Katherine says that her most memorable year is 1996, when her father got cancer and died. She chooses “Where You Are” by Josh Groban, and Mark puts together a waltz. Katherine is very emotional during and after the performance. Carrie Ann is crying and says it felt like Katherine was dancing with both Mark and her late father. Len says that he’s in a good mood so he could easily go the other way and critique the technicalities of the dance but he won’t. Bruno simply shouts, “Sensational!” Carrie Ann and Bruno give them 10s! Len gives them a 9.
