American Idol: Elise Testone Is Off Key Entire Time, Skylar Denies Colton Dating Rumors
Elise Testone sings Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and Foreigner’s “I Wanna Know What Love Is” in front of Jimmy and the No Doubters, who prefer the latter for her live performance. Gwen says Elise is one of her favorite American Idol singers. Elise belts out her best Foreigner rendition and a chorus emerges on stage at the peak of her performance. Steven Tyler wishes she chose a different song. JLo says Elise looks beautiful, which is usually a precursor to a lukewarm review which then followed. Randy says she was “underneath the pitch” the entire time.
The first duet of the night comes from Colton Dixon and Skylar Laine. What an interesting combo. They sing “Islands in the Stream” by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. (But for anybody under the age of 30, it’s the song which the chorus of “Ghetto Superstar” is taken from.) The judges comment on the obvious – that the song was a natural fit for Skylar but clearly not in Colton’s genre. They enjoyed it nonetheless.
