American Idol – Skylar Laine Sings Bette Midler Classic, Makes Jennifer Lopez Cry

Woo hoo! The final duet is Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet. What a pairing – two powerhouse voices in one song. I’m really expecting a lot from these young’uns. They take on Arethra Franklin and George Michael. The judges are super excited and stand up to demonstrate their happy approval. Randy mentions that he’s worked with Aretha and George. JLo wonders if they’re the final two. Ryan Seacrest asks Joshua what he whispered to Jessica right before their performance, and Joshua says he told her to “rock out.”

Colton Dixon is singing “Time After Time.” Tony says that’s the one song everyone wishes they wrote and that No Doubt often plays the song while they’re writing lyrics. Gwen says she was skeptical at first but she agrees with Colton’s song choice after hearing him sing it. Steven Tyler says the performance was astounding, and that he really likes Rex the drummer. Randy is also in love with the drummer.

Colton informs us that he ripped off the arrangement from another band called Quiet Drive. I’m glad he gave them credit on air because otherwise we’d surely be reading about it tomorrow morning on all the entertainment blogs (including this one).

Skylar Laine is last. She was misinformed about her mentors and had no idea Gwen Stefani was Gwen Stefani, though she did recognize her. Sklyar decides to sing “Wind Beneath My Wings.” The mentors are crazy about it. Her live performance is amazing, bringing the judges to their feet and JLo to tears.

Gwen Stefani accurately predicted — Skylar Laine had a wow moment!
