The Hunger Games Vs. Bridesmaids: Showdown at the MTV Movie Awards

This year’s MTV Movie Awards will be a battle between the wacky wedding party of Bridesmaids and the cutthroat kids of The Hunger Games. Each flick has received eight nominations, including noms for movie of the year. So the question remains: who will take home the coveted golden popcorn?

The Hunger Games, which has grossed over $600 million at the box office, has been nominated for movie of the year, best kiss, best female performance, best male performance, best on-screen transformation, best fight, best cast, and breakthrough performance.

Bridesmaids, which was one of the most talked-about flicks of 2011, is up for movie of the year, best female performance, best comedic performance (for both Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy), best gut-wrenching performance, best cast, breakthrough performance, and best on-screen dirtbag.

Other films nominated for best picture include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, The Help, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (part of the Twilight series, which has won best picture for the last three years in a row).

New categories for the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards include best cast, best music, best on-screen dirtbag, best on-screen transformation and gut-wrenching performance. The awards show will also feature all of our old favourites, including best kiss (for which The Hunger Games’ liplock between Katniss and Peeta is nominated).

The awards will be presented on June 3rd. Which film do you think will be crowned the cinematic champion?
