Jessica Alba Felt ‘Objectified’ as a Young Actress — Now ‘Dresses Up For Herself’

Who could forget the sexy cyberpunk action girl from Dark Angel–Ms. Jessica Alba? The Fantastic Four star is clearly easy on the eyes, but reveals her own struggles with beauty and fame.

The 31-year-old actress reveals in Marie Claire‘s June issue that she felt “objectified” after her breakthrough acting gig in Dark Angel. “I had a show that premiered when I was 19. And right away, everyone formed a strong opinion about me because of the way I was marketed. I was supposed to be sexy, this tough action girl. That’s what people expected.”

Jessica struggled with this new image of herself. “(At premieres) I felt like I was being objectified, and it made me uncomfortable. I wanted to be chic and elegant!” she reveals.

Since marrying Cash Warren and becoming a mother of two girls, three-year-old Honor and eight-month-old Haven, Jessica has toned down her image. Although she exudes natural sex appeal, Jessica says she now “dresses up for her herself” and chooses outfits that make her feel good. Getting attention from guys isn’t on her priority list.

“There are some women who dress for men. I dress for myself. It took me some time to get here. Being a mom and feeling grown-up have helped,” says Jessica. “Now if I’m going to wear something short, it has to have a high neck or a little sci-fi toughness to it, an edge. Now that I’m older, I’ve learned how to own it (my sexuality), but I’m still not very overt,” she adds.

Like most people, she does enjoy positive attention, but if she had the choice between someone noticing her outfit or having a good conversation, she would definitely go with the latter.
