John Legend and Jordin Sparks Sing Whitney Houston Tribute at 2012 Billboard Music Awards (WATCH!)

Last night, the Billboard Music Awards paid tribute to music legend Whitney Houston, who passed away in February at the age of 48. Whitney was awarded the Millennium Award; her daughter Bobbi Kristina and sister-in-law Pat accepted the award on her her behalf.

In addition, John Legend and Jordin Sparks paid tribute to Whitney by singing her songs. John started things off with “The Greatest Love of All,” before Jordin took over and sang Whitney’s most famous hit, “I Will Always Love You.” Take a look at the video of their performances:

The Billboard Music Awards had a bit more time to put together a tribute than did the Grammy Awards, which took place the very same weekend as Whitney’s sudden passing. At that show, Jennifer Hudson also sang “I Will Always Love You.”

Jordin went for a powerful rendition of the hit, whereas Jennifer sang a quieter, more graceful version. I prefer Jennifer’s – but maybe timing was a bit factor in the choice, since we now have a bit more distance. Also, it wasn’t as if Jordin was trying to outdo Whitney – and let’s be honest: she couldn’t if she tried. Jennifer’s voice probably could have rivaled Whitney’s, so maybe that’s why Jennifer choice to underplay it on purpose.

What did you think of the tribute?
