Little Boy Won’t Wear Hearing Aid Because “Superheroes Don’t”, so Marvel Makes Him a Superhero

Anthony Smith knew that superheroes don’t wear hearing aids – which is why he refused to wear his, despite the fact that he cannot hear out of his right ear. The 4-year-old was born with a chromosomal disorder that causes him to have great difficulty hearing. He wears a blue hearing aid (dubbed his ‘blue ear’) which allows him to hear and speak.

When Anthony woke up one day and refused to put on his hearing device, because “superheroes don’t wear blue ears”, his mother Christina D’Allesandro, decided to go out on a limb and email Marvel Comics in the hope that they would be able to help her out.

A day later, Anthony held in his hands an 80’s comic featuring Hawkeye, a superhero that lost his hearing and had to wear a hearing aid. D’Allesandro said that her son was ‘captivated’ by hearing-impaired hero. But Marvel didn’t stop there.

The comic company created a new superhero called Blue Ear in Anthony’s image. They sent a sketch to the boy featuring Blue Ear standing side by side with Hawkeye. His tagline is, “When DANGER makes a sound, the Blue Ear answers the call.”

Needless to say, Anthony wears his hearing aid now.

I have only one thing to say about this: this story is cuter than a pile of kittens and more heartwarming than the end of Rudy. AWWW.
