Miss USA 2012 Winner: Olivia Culpo
Olivia Culpo of Rhode Island is the newest Miss USA! People reports that the 20 year-old from Rhode Island was crowned the winner of Sunday’s pageant at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
According to Fox News, the tiny Boston University sophomore from Cranston, R.I., plays the cello and described herself as a nerd. She aspires to be more like Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn and said after winning her crown Sunday night that she plans to go to Tiffany & Co. in New York and recreate Hepburn’s iconic opening scene from Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
In the Q&A round, “celeb” judge Rob Kardashian read Olivia a question submitted on Twitter: “Would you feel it would be fair that a transgender woman wins the Miss USA title over a natural-born woman?” She responded, “I do think that that would be fair, but I can understand that people would be a little apprehensive to take that road because there is a tradition of natural-born women, but today where there are so many surgeries and so many people out there who have a need to change for a happier life, I do accept that because I believe it’s a free country.”
Olivia succeeds Alyssa Campanella as Miss USA, and will compete for the Miss Universe crown in December. Miss Maryland, Nana Meriwether, placed second in the competition.
Congrats to Olivia… do you think she deserved to win?
