Miley Cyrus is Engaged at 19 — Which Other Stars Have Married Young?
It seems that the biggest story of the last two days has been Miley Cyrus’s engagement to Liam Hemsworth — not only because we all love a good celebrity engagement, but also because both are so young. Miley, after all, is still underage at just 19 years old.
While celebrity marriages have a reputation for being short-lived in general, that fact in combination with the stars’ youth has led many to speculate on how long the marriage will last. It seems that lots of folks have doubts about ability of young people to build a marriage that stands the test of time.
Not that that’s stopped plenty of celebrity couples to tie the knot at a young age. Let’s take a look at a few celebrities who said ‘I do’ before they were 25.
Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie married when Hilary was 22. They’re still together and just had their first child.
Kate Hudson married Chris Robinson at 21. The couple had a son, and later divorced.
Megan Fox married long-time beau Brian Austin Green when she was 24. They’re rumored to be expecting a child.
Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey famously married when she was 22. They later divorced.
Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz were married when she was 24. They had a son and later divorced.
In my opinion, age is not the most important factor in a marriage’s longevity. There are plenty of other elements to consider, including communication styles, maturity, shared values, willingness to persevere through hard times, and timing. Perhaps I’m biased, though, seeing as my own parents are high school sweethearts who are still going strong.
That being said, I am a little skeptical about Miley and Liam’s union – they’re young stars who haven’t come in to their own yet, and neither seems fully matured. Only time will tell.
