Tortoises Divorce After 115 Years Together (VIDEO)
What could have led to the end of this century long romance? 115 years together! Bibi and Poldi have decided to end things after a few domestic altercations.
We’re not sure what led to Bibi (centenarian wife) to bite a piece of her equally aged husband Poldi’s shell. She attacked him several times, causing park officials to move Poldi to a new space.
“They have been together since they were young and grew up together, eventually becoming a pair,” says zoo chief Helga Happ. “But for no reason that anyone can discover, they seem to have fallen out. They just can’t stand each other.”
An animal expert was brought in to reignite the faltering flame between the two, but to no avail. Aphrodisiacs didn’t work. “We get the feeling they can’t stand the sight of each other anymore,” reiterates Happ. “That hasn’t stopped staffers from trying to patch things up, though — they’ve reportedly tried couples counseling, engaging them in joint games, and even feeding them “romantic good mood food.” But Bibi was not having it.
The two were born around 1897, and met shortly after. Bibi and Poldi had lived together at the Switzerland’s Basel Zoo, and have spent the last 36 years at the Austrian zoo. It seems that Bibi wants to live out her days as a single tortoise.
I guess all good things must come to an end. We’re just wondering, who gets to keep the oversized wading pool, hmmm?
