Spider-Man Andrew Garfield Explains that, “No One Wants to Wear Spandex” (VIDEO)
Everything old is new again – and that couldn’t be more true for the popular Spider-Man franchise. A reboot of the franchise is due to hit theatres this summer, and it’s set to present a different side of Spider-Man than the one we’re used to seeing.
The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, aims to delve deeper into Peter Parker’s backstory and explain more about what made Parker into the Spider-Man he eventually becomes.
In a news conference in Seoul, Garfield and Stone discussed the things that make the new series unique, as well as the triumphs and difficulties they had during filming. For Garfield, one of the biggest challenges was baring (almost) everything in a spandex suit.
Garfield went on to explain why he was so willing to don the spandex:
“No one wants to wear spandex, but Peter has to for many reasons, so yeah, it was a challenge, but of course wearing the suit itself was a dream of mine since I was three years old, so being able to put it on every day.”
Stone, Garfield’s on and off-screen love interest, discussed one of the key differences between the reboot and earlier Spider-Man franchises. Stone plays Gwen Stacy, and unlike Mary Jane Watson, Stacy isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty.
“She’s involved in helping Peter save the day as Spiderman of course, and so there are a lot of differences there, she doesn’t sit idly by and she doesn’t let him being a superhero stop the relationship from continuing or complain about it. She becomes a partner,” Stone explained.
