Sesame Street Movie Being Made!

Your colorful pals from Sesame Street are coming to the big screen! According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Sesame Street movie is in the works over at 20th Century Fox.

The studio has secured rights to the iconic children’s series, which premiered in 1969 and aired mostly on PBS stations. Longtime Sesame Street writer Joey Mazzarino will write the script; Shawn Levy, Michael Aguilar, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady will produce.

This won’t be the first Sesame Street movie; Follow That Bird was released in 1985, followed by The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland in 1999.

Since this is 2012, you can follow Sesame Street on Twitter. We’re kind of in love with their latest “Call Me Maybe” tweet: “Cookie Monster: Me just met you. Dis is crazy. But me love cookies! Gimme, maybe?”

Would you see Sesame Street on the big screen? It’s a fun idea, but The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland only made $11 million even though its budget was $26 million. Yikes! Perhaps the studio thinks that Sesame Street will garner the excitement and nostalgia that The Muppets did last year?
