While Adele has never been shy about discussing her love of alcohol, but a new biography about the singer reveals that her love has a darker side. Adele has struggled with an alcohol problem.
According to the biography, the Grammy-winning singer was sometimes so intoxicated on stage during her first tour that she forgot the words to her own songs.
“I got so drunk by the time I went on at 2 a.m. I had forgotten the words to my own songs … It was the worst thing ever,” said the 24-year-old. The star once got so drunk that she fell off her stool in front of the audience.
Her alcohol abuse was only worsened by a failed relationship.
“She loved the drama surrounding boys who treated her badly,” the biography states. “Adele would drink more than normal to salve the heartbreak.”
Her father was also an alcoholic, and his struggle with alcohol nearly killed him. The biography speculates that Adele’s poor relationship with her father, who left her family when she was three years old, may have also contributed to the singer’s drinking problem.
According to the singer, she has since given up drinking and is on the road to recovery.
