Paula Deen Weight Loss: How She Lost 30 Pounds

The internet was not kind to Paula Deen, the celebrity chef famous for high-fat recipes, when she announced she had Type 2 Diabetes at the same time she became a spokesperson for a Diabetes drug. Even I had to ask: why not just make healthier food?

In a new People Magazine cover story, Paula, 65, says she’s doing just that. “I do think differently now” about food, Paula explains. “I’m more aware.” Now, instead of loading up on mashed potatoes, Paula chooses healthier options like Greek salads and baked fish. It’s working: she’s already lost 30 pounds, and dropped from a size 18 to a size 10!

“It took me a couple of years to get to this point,” she says. “If you make a few small changes, they can add up to big results.”

As much as I want to say DUH, I give Paula a lot of credit. She’s rethinking her entire system – a system that made her rich – and she’s modeling a healthy, sustainable form of weight loss. If everybody swapped out a few unhealthy foods instead of holding themselves to Jessica Biel-like standards, we’d all be better off.

To follow in Paula’s footsteps, check her website for a collection of Lighter Summer Recipes, which feature less sugar and fewer calories than her traditional recipes.

Kudos to you, Paula!
