Scarlett Johansson Nude Photo Hacker is Going to Jail

Christopher Chaney, the man who hacked the email accounts of 50 people in the entertainment industry (Scarlett Johansson among them), has been formally convicted. The 25-year-old has been sentenced to 71 months in prison and ordered to financially compensate his victims.

In court, Chaney admitted that he hacked the stars’ email accounts by correctly guessing the answers to their security questions. He used information he found about them on the Internet to glean the answers. It seems that if you’re a celebrity, “What’s my mother’s maiden name?” is probably not the best thing to use as your security question.

Chaney has also been ordered to provide a total of $150,000 in monetary compensation to some of his victims, including Scarlett Johansson, Christina Aguilera, and Renee Olstead. He found nude photos in these women’s email accounts and distributed them to other hackers and celebrity gossip websites. Olstead (best known for her role in The Secret Life of the American Teenager) was underage at the time.

In an interview with GQ in April, Chaney explained what motivated him to hack the stars’ accounts: “It’s the whole Star Trek thing. Going where no man has gone before.”

Looks like for Christopher, jail is the final frontier.
