Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Getting a Divorce
With all the adorable Katie-and-Suri pics we’ve seen lately, we never would have guessed that Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise are getting a divorce. But it’s true: People Magazine reports that TomKat is splitting up after 5 years of marriage.
“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” says Holmes’s attorney Jonathan Wolfe. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”
Tom, 49, and Katie, 33, got married at an Italian castle in November 2006. Their daughter Suri is 6.
Although they seemed impossibly in love (remember when Tom went crazy on Oprah’s couch?), this isn’t exactly a shocker; Tom had already been through two failed marriages, one with Nicole Kidman and one with Mimi Rogers. Then, of course, there have been a zillion rumors that Tom is actually gay.
Tom gushed about Katie in the June issue of Playboy: “She is an extraordinary person, and if you spent five minutes with her, you’d see it. Everything she does, she does with this beautiful creativity. She’s funny and charming, and when she walks into the room, I just feel better. I’m a romantic. I like doing things like creating romantic dinners, and she enjoys that.”
In 2010, Katie said in an interview that it was “weird” to be married in the spotlight: “It must seem weird, I guess, having so many people watching. It is weird. I get it. But you just, you know, smile and nod.”
