Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise Divorce: The Key Facts So Far

The celebrity gossip world is abuzz with the recent news of the once couch-jumping Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise being served divorce papers by his wife of five+ years. Here are a few key details to keep you up to date:

Katie Holmes shocked Cruise (and everyone else) on June 28 with the divorce as he was filming a new movie, Oblivion, in Iceland. Cruise’s publicist announced that Cruise was “deeply saddened,” as he was completely blindsided. Does anybody else find it fitting that he was shooting a movie called Oblivion?

Though it hasn’t exactly been confirmed from Holmes’ party, it is believed she is planning to fight for sole custody of six-year-old Suri.

Holmes filed in New York citing “irreconcilable differences.” Experts believe she is specifically filing in NYC because its laws would make it easier for her to gain sole custody.

Holmes has been trying to escape from the marriage for a year, saying that their marriage has been “irretrievably broken.”

Holmes finally decided to break free when she was convinced that Cruise would force their daughter Suri into joining the Church of Scientology, particularly the Sea Organization which is known for it’s extremely strict practices.

Holmes has fired her now former bodyguard team because they were initially working for Cruise before they were assigned to her.

Holmes has been seen wearing her wedding week up until last week.

The Sea Organization claims that they would never allow admittance to anybody under the age of 16 without both parents’ consent.
