Ridiculous Anti-Fireworks PSA Will Help You Stay Safe this 4th of July (VIDEO)

Fireworks have always been a big part of 4th of July celebrations, but they can be dangerous. That’s why it’s important to stay safe – and this silly PSA from the 90’s can show you how.

The PSA begins by focusing on two boys who are just chillin’ in their living room, playing what I believe is Super Mario Land 2 on some original Game Boys. A commercial comes on the television, showing a robot-superhero-Judge Dredd-esque character named Preventor discussing the dangers of fireworks.

What follows is a 7-minute long public service announcement that could only have come out of the 90’s (which, as you may recall, was the time of such classics as Dontcha Put It In Your Mouth and There’s No Hope With Dope).

It’s pure 90’s PSA ridiculousness, featuring cheesy music, bad acting, slow motion running sequences, kids buying fireworks out of some sketchy guy’s sedan as though that’s a real thing you can do, and a stupidly-named superhero who jumps through what appears to be a hole in the fabric of space and saves the day.

Of course, in the end, everyone learns the value of friendship and not lighting one bottle rocket off in your backyard because it will burn your whole house down. We also get a hint that Preventor has a secret tragic backstory at 4:50, when he explains the dangers of illegal fireworks, saying, “People have lost their homes that way – people I know.”

What happened to you, Preventor?! Hopefully there will be a prequel released in the near future.
