YouTube Makeup Expert Lauren Luke Releases Powerful Anti-Violence PSA (WATCH)

Makeup expert Lauren Luke has earned more than 125 million hits on YouTube for her makeup demonstrations – but today she’s making headlines for telling women NOT to cover up their faces. In a new video, “How to look your best the morning after,” Lauren shows women how to use concealer and other methods to cover up bruises and cuts from an abusive partner.

At the end of the video, Lauren quickly turns off her webcam when we hear someone coming through the door. Then text comes on screen: “65% of women who suffer domestic violence keep it hidden. Don’t cover it up.” Lauren urges everyone to share the video and visit refuge.org.uk/lauren . Check out the whole PSA below:

According to Mashable, Lauren started the “Don’t Cover it Up” campaign because she was “gobsmacked” by how many women are affected by domestic violence: 1 in 4 women, including teenagers, experience domestic abuse, including physical, emotional, psychological and financial abuse. Lauren’s bruises and cuts in the video aren’t real – but she is representing millions of women who suffer abuse.

“The reason I did this video is because domestic violence is a huge issue and I don’t think it gets the exposure that it needs,” Lauren says. “I just wanted to get the point out there and let everyone know that there’s somewhere you can go if you need some support.”

We love Lauren’s powerful message – please share it!
