Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise Reach Divorce Settlement
Just two weeks after Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, Katie’s attorney has confirmed that the two have reached a settlement. Attorney Jonathan Wolfe told People magazine, “The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed. We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life.”
While the details of the settlement have not yet been released, we do know from previous reports that the pair’s highest priority was reaching an agreement about visitation rights for the couple’s 6-year-old daughter, Suri Cruise.
Sources say that the settlement allows Suri to live with her mother, but includes ‘generous’ visitation rights for Tom.
In a joint statement released this morning, reps for the stars told E! News that Tom and Katie are, “committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in [their] daughter Suri’s best interests.”
For those who haven’t been following the story, 33-year-old Katie filed for divorce from 50-year-old Cruise on June 29th, after six years of marriage. Following the surprising news, there was much speculation that Katie’s decision was a result of Tom’s affiliation with Scientology. Many expected a large, messy custody battle.
It’s nice to see celebrities (and people in general) putting their children’s well-being ahead of their own. Good luck to both Tom and Katie in the future.
