Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s Quickie Divorce
Faster than most celebrities fall in love, TomKat’s divorce was settled and finalized within 11 days.
As we reported yesterday, Suri will live primarily with Holmes with generous visitations rights for Cruise.
Many (including myself) were expecting a long, drawn-out affair, with cloaks and daggers, intrigue and mysterious Scientology links, but that wasn’t to be.
Others said that Cruise would fight back after letting Holmes take the media spotlight for a while. “Katie played this out like a master chess player,” stated an unaffiliated attorney Anahita Sedaghatfar. “Such bold, public moves like filing in New York and seeking sole custody of their daughter, were clearly intended to send a message to Tom that she is willing to fight this battle and do so publicly, something that could harm him more than her.”
The quickie settlement may have been a result of Holmes’ blindsiding initial actions, followed by an airtight prenup, plus their mutual desire to keep their divorce under wraps.
“The settlement agreement likely includes a bullet proof confidentiality clause which means the public will never know any of the details, I am sure Tom made sure of that,” said Sedaghatfar. “There was no way Tom would allow this fight to be aired in the court system for the world to see.”
Whatever it was–Katie’s initial actions, Tom’s gentlemanliness, legal restrictions, or their mutual desire to maintain privacy–they seem to have their daughter’s best interests at heart.
And faster than you can say TomKat, the would-be biggest divorce of the decade is over. Just like that.
