Nicole Kidman Supports Katie Holmes, Kidman Talks About Her Marriage to Tom Cruise
Katie Holmes has been lauded for the speed at which she divorced Tom Cruise. It looks like Holmes sought support from someone very close to her ex-husband–his ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
Apparently, Kidman was a private support system for Holmes. “Nicole has been supportive, saying she’s been through it too and to hang in there,” says a source. “She has been a private friend not many people know about.” Some reports claim that Nicole told Katie to strike first and strike fast once she made the decision to divorce. And did she ever.
The two reportedly became friends in 2006 before Katie said her ‘I dos’ to Tom. Kidman and Cruise divorced in 2001 after almost 11 years of marriage to the Rock of Ages actor. They share two adopted children together: Isabella, 19, and Connor, 17.
It seems highly likely that Katie sought and received support from Nicole, who confessed that she felt like a backdrop in her marriage to Tom.
“I felt I became a star only by association. I didn’t think (my early movies) were very good, which is why I would always cower in the background,” the actress confessed in the March 2011 issue of Marie Claire.
“I thought, I don’t deserve to be here. We would go to the Oscars and I would think, I’m here to support him. I felt it was my job to put on a beautiful dress and to be seen and not heard.”
Kidman later remarried country singer Keith Urban in June 2006. They have two daughters together: Sunday Rose, 3, and Faith Margaret, 17 months.
Although, Nicole is happily married now with children, she says that the divorce was a traumatic experience for her: ”I was really damaged and not sure whether [love and marriage] was ever going to happen again to me.”
It’s nice to hear that Nicole has been supportive of Katie during this trying time, and that a settlement was reached quickly for the sake of Suri.
