Mom Sues After Instructional Breastfeeding Video Turned into Porn
MaryAnn Sahoury wanted to help new mothers who were having a difficult time nursing their babies. Instead, she ended up having her full name and her infant daughter’s name attached to a porn video that was posted in various places on the Internet.
In 2010, Sahoury filmed an instructional video for Meredith Corp, a media and marketing company. The video showed Sahoury breastfeeding her daughter and explaining various techniques for successful nursing. Sahoury claims that Meredith Corp was told that the video would only appear on Parents TV and cable, and that neither her name nor her daughter’s name would appear in the video.
“I did this to help other moms,” Sahoury told The Associated Press.
Later that year, Sahoury decided to Google herself. What she found was shocking and deeply upsetting: a number of links to porn sites and videos with her name attached. Her instructional video had been edited to include a similar looking woman performing sex acts. A Google search of Sahoury’s daughter’s name returned the same results.
It seems that Meredith Corp had posted the video on Parents TV’s YouTube page, from which it had been ripped and spliced with porn clips by an unknown person.
Now, Sahoury is suing Meredith Corp. In the suit, she claims that the producer of the video did not tell her that the video would appear on YouTube, or that her full name would be used. Sahoury, however, has admitted that she did not read the release that she signed after shooting the video.
What do you think? As terrifying as this incident is, does Sahoury have a case against the production company?
