Al Roker Owns Matt Lauer on Live TV (VIDEO)
It started out as a fluffy NBC news report on the U.S. women’s rowing team. Al Roker, Matt Lauer, and Savannah Guthrie were chatting with some of the Olympians about their post-race traditions. The team explained that they traditionally throw a team member into the water after each race.
“The tradition here in New York is you throw her in the Hudson River,” joked Lauer.
That’s when things got real.
“Which is different than our tradition,” added Roker. “Which is you throw one of us under the bus, but that’s another story.”
Cue awkward laughter. Aw, snap. Matt, you just got served.
For those who don’t get the significance of the comment, it seems fairly clear that it was a reference to the fact that Lauer is widely considered to be the reason that Ann Curry was fired from her co-host spot on Today and replaced with Guthrie. The general consensus, based on hearsay and what has been implied by Curry herself, is that Matt had a problem with her and refused to sign a new contract unless Ann got canned.
Unfortunately for Matt, it seems that most people are on Team Curry – and now we know that Al is one of them!
