Doritos Locos Tacos a Huge Success, More Flavors May Be on the Horizon
North Americans are a taco-loving people. We are also a continent that adores both tortilla chips covered in fluorescent orange cheese dust and things that are inexpensive. So when Taco Bell decided to mash seasoned beef, cheddar cheese, sour cream, lettuce, and tomatoes into a crunchy Dorito shell and sell it for just $1.29, there was no question it would be a hit.
But nobody could’ve expected just how much of a hit it would be. Taco Bell has just announced that since the product’s release in March, they have sold over 200 million Doritos Locos tacos. That is almost six times the population of Canada, or nearly two-thirds the population of the USA.
The Doritos Locos taco has had the most successful product launch in Taco Bell history. It has also single-handedly changed public perception of Taco Bell tacos from ‘cause of violent indigestion’ to ‘cause of violent indigestion in a Dorito shell’.
Now, Taco Bell is taking the wild success of the Doritos Locos taco and running with it. The purveyor of cheap, Americanized Mexican food is testing out two new Doritos shell flavors at select test locations. Soon, you may be able to get a Flamas or Cool Ranch taco at a Taco Bell Near you.
Taco Bell hasn’t announced when they’re planning on rolling out the new flavors, but given the success of the original Doritos Loco taco, we probably won’t have to wait too long.
