“Jersey Shore” Cancelled by MTV
Just days after Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi brought a new baby Guido into the world, MTV has cancelled Jersey Shore. According to Entertainment Weekly, season six of the reality show, which debuts October 4, will be the last.
The last season of Jersey Shore will see the old GTL crew back in n Seaside Heights, NJ. In addition, MTV is planning a retrospective called Gym, Tan, Look Back that will air before the Video Music Awards on Thursday, Sept. 6. Afterward, the Jersey Shore cast will appear live on the red carpet for the VMA pre-show.
Jersey Shore premiered back in 2009 and had skyrocketed to nearly 9 million viewers two years later, making it the most popular program in MTV history. But once the crew went to Italy, ratings started to plummet, and we could take no more of Ronnie & Sam’s dysfunction.
Of course, it’s not like we can escape the cast members of Jersey Shore. The show’s two spinoff, The Pauly D Project and Snooki & JWOWW remain. The latter has been renewed for a second season; we’re still waiting to hear about the fate of Pauly D’s show. Also, an MTV exec said he’d definitely be interested in a Snooki-Jionni wedding special (the two are engaged but not yet hitched).
Will you miss Jersey Shore? I admit I was amused by a few eps – but the golden spray tan of JS has long since faded.
