Selena Gomez Stars in ‘Raunchy’ New Movie (VIDEO)
Selena Gomez is shedding her Disney persona in her newest flick Spring Breakers. The film premiered on Wednesday at the Venice film festival, and follows four friends on a wild binge of booze, sex, drugs, and other shenanigans.
This is a far cry from her Disney days on Wizards of Waverly Place. She warns her younger fans that the film may be “shocking,” but she felt she was ready for the role.
“People do put a label on you,” says the 20-year-old actress. “I know that I have younger fans, and this is an opportunity for myself to kind of grow. It is a little shocking, I think, for the younger audiences … but I think it was right for me.
Although, Gomez plays the most subdued of the wild foursome, there’s no lack of flesh and skimpy outfits. The film follows four college girls — played by Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine – who rob a restaurant in order to fund their spring break partying. They get thrown in jail and are bailed out by drug and arms dealer, Alien, played by James Franco.
The director and writer Harmony Korine says he wanted to capture the spirit of young people today. Korine is best known for his controversial and equally sex-filled film Kids.
Some critics call the film implausible and pretentious while others describe it was wild and compelling.
