US Airways Flight to Dallas Sent Back to Philadelphia After Birthday Hoax

What’s the worst birthday present you’ve ever gotten? According to NBC News, one man got a trick played on him that resulted in his flight’s being sent back to Philadelphia when it was supposed to land in Dallas.

Police called the incident “a pretty nasty trick played on a passenger.” Apparently, because it was a man’s birthday, his friends called Philadelphia police and told them the man was trying to “smuggle” something to Texas.

Flight 1267 left Philadelphia International airport, headed for Dallas-Fort Worth – but returned to Philly just before 9 a.m. out of “an abundance of caution,” according to US Airways spokesperson Davien Anderson. The airline said that the fiasco cost “upwards of tens of thousands of dollars in direct and indirect costs,” and that 69 other passengers had to be moved to other flights.

Way to go, a-holes from Philly. Dear Dude Whose Friends Called the Police, we seriously recommend you get some new friends. Whatever happened to taking your bro to the strip club for his birthday…or even just buying him a few beers?
