Dr. Pepper ‘Evolution’ Ad Angers Those Who Lack Sense of Humor

Yesterday, Dr. Pepper posted the following image on their official Facebook page:

To the sane individual, this would appear to be a cheeky little advertisement that uses an image that’s ubiquitous in pop culture to sell a sugary soda. But, because we’ve apparently run out of important things to argue about as a society, it has created controversy across the Internet.

Soon after the picture was posted, negative comments began flooding in from those who claimed to have been deeply offended by the image’s theme of ‘evolution’. Yep, it’s the Oreo debacle all over again, except somehow even more stupid.

“As a born again Christian, this highly upsets me,” wrote one commenter. “Please take this down and replace [the advertisement]. If this isn’t taken down I will be forced to replace with the lesser drink of Pibb Xtra. Thank You.”

Another commenter added, “I ain’t no freaking chimp. No more Dr Pepper for my household. God Bless y’all.”

Comments such as these have prompted atheists and other non-believers to come out in support of the ad and Dr. Pepper, vowing to buy more of the soda. Which is really too bad, because Dr. Pepper isn’t even that good, and we shouldn’t have to support a company for running an advertisement that probably wasn’t even intended to express a political view.

One commenter summarized the debate quite succinctly when they wrote, “The day your faith is shaken by a Dr Pepper ad is the day you should probably start reconsidering your faith.”
