Michael Madsen Pulled Over for DUI, Claims it was a Misunderstanding (VIDEO)

Actor Michael Madsen, who is best known for his roles in Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill, was pulled over in the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu yesterday on suspicion of DUI.

The 54-year-old actor was allegedly driving erratically and weaving through traffic in his  Pontiac GTO, prompting police to pull him over. Madsen blew a 0.21 on the breathalyzer, more than twice the legal limit in Malibu. The actor has since been charged with misdemeanour DUI, and his car has been impounded.

During the roadside stop, Madsen told police that he was feeling extremely ill, and was taken to hospital. He has since been released.

According to the actor, who has struggled with alcoholism for years, it was the undisclosed illness that caused his erratic driving, not alcohol. Madsen claims that he has the flu and is on prescription medication that might have skewed the results of the breathalyzer test.

“Michael has been on prescription medication that easily could have made him look to be under the influence and caused him to fail the sobriety test,” said Madsen’s attorney, Perry Wander.

Which leads us to wonder: even if this statement is true, shouldn’t Madsen have avoided getting behind the wheel while under the influence of a prescription drug powerful enough to cause him to fail a sobriety test?
